AMMAN — Education Minister Mohammad Thneibat on Tuesday launched the “Open EMIS”, an education management information system, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The project, which was implemented in cooperation with the UNESCO and funded by the EU, seeks to facilitate and standardise information access and data management across the three main levels of the educational system’s hierarchy: the ministry, the directorate and the school, Petra quoted the minister as saying.

In addition to being made available to the ministry, “Open EMIS” will be distributed to schools and education departments throughout the Kingdom, where its accessibility “will prove vital” to decision makers across the educational spectrum, Thneibat added.

No additional costs will be incurred by the ministry for the usage, modification of or future upgrades to the system as other parties involved in the development granted the ministry full ownership, according to the minister. Thneibat also said that necessary measures were taken to ensure the information system could easily be linked with the Civil Status and Passports Department databases, Petra reported.
