AMMAN — A technical failure prevented the demolition of the old Aqaba grain silos,a project which is being implemented by a Turkish company, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Wednesday.
Nine grain silos out of 75 fell, and the others stand in poor conditions, the Turkish company noted.
A representative of the Turkish company, Mohammed Gorol, said that the explosives were detonated, but the concrete structure did not collapse. He declared the company's responsibility for this flaw, reaffirming its commitment to pay for the costs of demolition and dismantling as soon as possible.
Gorol said the company will take down the silos without the use of explosives. Machinery will be used, he pointed out. Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority Chief Commissioner Nasser Shraideh gave the company a 48-hour ultimatum to remove the silos.
