AMMAN — Scattered showers are expected in the next few days as a cold front accompanied by a cold air mass is forecast to start affecting the Kingdom on Wednesday, meteorologists said on Tuesday.

Scattered rainfall is expected on Wednesday and Thursday in the central and northern regions, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department's (JMD) website.

Omar Dajani, a forecaster at Arabiaweather.com, said the effect of the depression, originating from Russia, will intensify Thursday night and next week.

"Minimum temperatures are forecast to reach near or below zero in the hours before sunrise," he told The Jordan Times over the phone on Tuesday.

The forecaster said the cold front will continue until the middle of next week, stressing that there are no chances of snow on Thursday and Friday.

Temperatures in Amman are expected to reach a maximum of 16°C and drop to a minimum of 6°C on Wednesday, according to the JMD. In Aqaba, mercury levels will range between a high of 23°C and a low of 16°C.

A further drop in temperatures is forecast on Thursday, reaching a high of 14°C and a low of 3°C in Amman, a JMD statement showed. In Aqaba, temperatures will be between 20°C and 10°C.

The JMD warned of low visibility in hilly areas due to fog, and of slippery roads and the potential of frost formation at night, especially in hilly areas and the badia region.

Floods are also expected in valleys and low-lying areas in the early morning hours, the department warned.
