AMMAN — Jordan Investment Commission (JIC) Secretary General Faridon Hartouqa met with a delegation representing Chinese companies on a visit to Jordan and discussed investment opportunities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The JIC’s mission is to attract investment and encourage confidence in Jordan’s business environment, he said. The two parties discussed facilitating bureaucratic processes, including registration, licensing, exemptions and other investment related procedures, according to Petra.

Hartouqa reviewed various investment opportunities in industry, tourism and ICT, highlighting that out of every 100 companies in the Arab region, 27 are Jordanian.

The deputy mayor of Shanghai conveyed China’s interest in Jordan, because of the Kingdom’s unique investment environment and strategic location, he said.

He called on the JIC to open an office in Shanghai to facilitate communication with Chinese investors, adding that a memorandum of understanding should be signed between Jordan and the Shanghai Investment Promotion Office to boost investment relations.
