Cabinet briefed on crackdown on water theft

AMMAN — The Council of Ministers was briefed on Sunday on the efforts of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation to crack down on water theft and eliminate the illegal use of the resource. 

At the Cabinet meeting, the ministry said that it was pursuing efforts to reduce water loss and ensure fair distribution. 

The council was also briefed on the outcome of Interior Minister Salameh Hammad’s visit to Kuwait to discuss facilitating the movement of Jordanian exports to Iraq through Kuwait.  

Hammad said upon the directives of Kuwait Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, the Gulf country has expressed its readiness to assist Jordan in this regard.  

Kuwait pledged to take care of related logistics and allow Jordanian trucks to transit through its territory, preparing the required routes in no more than a week. 

Jordan asked Kuwait to facilitate the entry of 60 refrigerated trucks into Iraq through its territory and to grant drivers a six-month visa. 

Referring to the 2015 Jordanian Expatriates Conference which was held last week and the Educational Development Conference 2015 that followed it, Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour commended both gatherings in working to boost contacts and achieve educational reform. 

The Cabinet also reviewed its report on updating development programmes for the governorates for 2016-2018, stressing the importance of specifying promising sectors, investment opportunities and income-generating projects.   

At the meeting, the Cabinet approved a decision entailing that Aqaba customs employees may be dispatched to work at other customs centres, just like all the other employees of the Jordan Customs Department.
