AMMAN — A boy drowned on Monday in one of the pools of the Crowne Plaza Jordan Dead Sea Resort & Spa, the hotel said and the Civil Defence Department (CDD) confirmed on Tuesday.
In a statement, the resort announced “with great sorrow that a painful incident [had] taken place at the hotel’s main swimming pool where a child sadly drowned”.
CPR was performed by hotel lifeguards prior to the arrival of CDD personnel, “who took the child to Southern Shuneh Hospital”, said the statement.
“The Crowne Plaza management team conveys its deepest sympathy to the bereaved family and reiterates its support during this painful time,” the hotel said.
Further details on the nature of the accident or the lifeguards’ presence during the incident were not available in the statement.
Meanwhile, an official at the CDD confirmed the incident, saying an ambulance was called to the scene to transport the six-year-old child.
“The child was dead when we arrived and our role was only to transport him to the closest hospital in the area,” the CDD official told The Jordan Times.
