Bosnia ambassador calls for opening Jordanian embassy in Sarajevo

AMMAN — Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mato Zeco has called for opening a Jordanian embassy in Sarajevo, noting its importance in boosting cooperation in several sectors and enhancing Jordan's outreach to other Balkan countries where the Kingdom has no diplomatic missions.

In an interview with Jordan News Agency, Petra, on the occasion of his country's National Day, the ambassador praised the efforts of Jordanian peacekeepers during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 1990s, as well as Jordan's humanitarian role in welcoming refugees.

Zeco said that work is ongoing with relevant entities in Bosnia to remove the requirement for Jordanians to obtain visas in order to enter Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

He also said that he is in discussions with Jordanian authorities, including the Ministry of Tourism and the Jordan Tourism Board, to establish a direct flight route between the two countries to increase tourist exchange.

The diplomat said that the lack of a trade agreement between the two countries is holding back the potential for increased trade cooperation, pointing out that there are 30 Jordanian companies currently investing in his country.

He said that five Bosnian companies specialising in defence industries have participated in this year’s Special Operations Forces Exhibition (SOFEX), expressing appreciation for His Majesty King Abdullah’s visit to his country’s pavilion at the exhibition.

Zeco noted that there are over 1,200 Bosnian citizens in Jordan.

In response to a question, he stressed his country’s support to the two-state solution, commending the Kingdom’s efforts in enhancing security and stability and realising peace.
