AMMAN — The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 250,000 narcotic pills hidden in carton plates, and police arrested the main suspect, the Public Security Department’s (PSD) media centre said Tuesday.
AND personnel received a tip that the suspect had prepared a large quantity of narcotic pills to smuggle outside the country.
A special AND team was tasked with following up on the case and identified the smuggling method and the plan to smuggle the plates through a shipping office.
The team then arrested the main suspect and seized 1.5 tonnes of plates with the pills inside them at the shipping office, the PSD added.
The suspect confessed to his involvement in the case in cooperation with two Arab nationals, the PSD said, adding that he is still being questioned and work is under way to arrest the other suspects.
