AMMAN — Amman's "most wanted" cocaine trafficking suspect has been arrested, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) spokesperson announced on Saturday.
The spokesperson said that Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) personnel have continued their efforts to implement operations to combat drug dealers' activities and raid their hideouts.
He added that AND, over the past several days, has completed investigations on three cases, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Reports were made about a dangerous individual who introduced and sold cocaine in Amman, the source said, noting that cocaine, a dangerous substance, is not used widely in the Kingdom.
The man was arrested after a search of his car in Amman produced an unknown quantity of cocaine, 1kg of Hashish and 2,000 narcotic pills, the spokesperson said, adding that another suspect who was accompanying him was arrested as well.
The spokesperson said that after searching the suspect's residence, some 2.5kg of cocaine and 16 palm-sized sheets of hashish were found in addition to a cache of narcotic pills, an unspecified crystalline substance, and a firearm.
The case will be referred to the State Security Court, he added.
In a second narcotics case, a suspect was arrested after a search was conducted on his vehicle on the Amman-Zarqa highway. The suspect was found in possession of 50,000 narcotic pills.
In a third narcotics case, a farm in Balqa governorate was raided after discovering its owner had used it for growing marijuana. A total of 120 containers of marijuana saplings were found on the property, the spokesperson said, noting that the necessary legal measures were taken.
