AMMAN — Authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle 2.6 million narcotic pills stored in a truck carrying fruit heading to the Kingdom through the Jaber Border Crossing, and arrested the driver, who is a non-Jordanian Arab national, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Friday.
Upon receiving a tip-off indicating an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotic pills into the Kingdom, Anti-Narcotics Department personnel began an investigation to identify the suspects and secure a handover of the narcotics, a security source said.
The drugs were hidden in fruit boxes in the vehicle, which had non-Jordanian Arab licence plates, Petra reported. An investigation is ongoing to identify the involved suspects, the source added.
