Al Rai journalists outside Amman stage protest

AMMAN — Several journalists working at the Al Rai daily’s offices in various governorates staged a sit-in on Wednesday in front of the Jordan Press Foundation premises.

In a memo that was handed to Al Rai Editor-in-Chief Samir Hiyari, they urged the JPF not to close its offices outside Amman or reduce the salaries of those who are not hired as staff.

During the sit in, the employees delegated Jordan Press Association President Tareq Momani to take up their issue with the JPF board.

During a meeting with Momani and Hiyari, JPF Chairman Samih Maaytah pledged that the foundation, which publishes Al Rai and The Jordan Times, will examine the employees’ demands during a board meeting scheduled for next week.
