AMMAN—The Association of Banks in Jordan (ABJ) has become an associate member of the European Banking and Financial Services Training Association (EBTN).

“The ABJ’s most recent membership strengthens Jordanian banking capabilities necessary for keeping abreast of international developments,” Director General of ABJ Maher Mahrouq said in a statement sent to The Jordan Times on Monday.

The decision was made on Friday during EBTN’s annual meeting held in Serbia, according to an ABJ statement which showed that ABJ’s application was submitted by the association’s director general.

Further, the ABJ is the third Arab member to join the EBTN network which includes in its membership both Egypt and Lebanon.

The EBTN includes 34 European members and 8 non-European members, of which are Belgium, Italy, Germany, Greece, Cyprus, Spain, France, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, India, Türkiye and Canada.

During the meeting, Mahrouq stressed the importance of actively collaborating with the EBTN, as it helps promote ABJ’s work in Jordan, in addition to being vital for the association’s continued growth and development.

Becoming a member would assist in building global partnerships and communicating with representatives from European and non-European financial institutions, in addition to helping in keeping up with the best practices in the training and capacity-building domain, according to Mahrouq.

The EBTN is an international nonprofit association, registered and located in Brussels, at the premises of the European Banking Federation.
