AMMAN — The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) on Monday announced the arrest of 90 suspected drug dealers in dozens of raids across the Kingdom over the last nine days.

“The AND is increasing its campaigns against drug dealers and will continue to do so,” a senior AND official told The Jordan Times.

The official added that the department is constantly collecting information and following up on leads “to clean up our streets from drug dealers”.

“We conducted 47 raids that resulted in the arrest of 90 individuals. There were no major incidents or injuries during the busts,” according to the official.

The most recent operation targeted eight houses in an Amman suburb following a tip-off that individuals were reportedly using the houses to stash illegal narcotics, according to a Public Security Department (PSD) statement.

“AND agents conducted simultaneous raids, arresting 10 men and seizing a large amount of illegal drugs,” the PSD statement said.

The PSD added that large amounts of hashish, illegal pills and synthetic cannabis (joker) were seized during the raids.

Police also seized a handful of weapons in the possession of the arrested suspects, the statement added.

All suspects were referred to the State Security Court prosecutor for further questioning and indictment.
