AMMAN — The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) dealt with 527 cases during the past three weeks that included homicides, thefts and scams, the Public Security Department (PSD) said Sunday.

The CID arrested 8,294 wanted suspects in those cases and retrieved 146 stolen vehicles, according to a PSD statement.

The suspects, who are “wanted” for several crimes, were arrested in operations around the Kingdom, including in Azraq, Ramtha and the Central Badia.

One of the suspected scammers reportedly impersonated “a well known figure on social media” and defrauded a victim out of JD642,000, claiming that he would use it to invest in a “lucrative project”.

The suspect was questioned, confessed to committing the scam and was referred to the judiciary.

Another suspect reportedly defrauded an Arab out of 50,000 Saudi riyals (around JD9,439). The victim was told he was investing in a housing project.

The suspect was arrested and he confessed to the police before being referred to the judiciary.

Meanwhile, the CID’s cybercrime combating unit dealt with 167 crimes and 11 other cases related to intellectual property rights, the PSD statement said.
