AMMAN — Nearly 73,000 people have received cash, as well as heaters, plastic sheets, blankets and other critical items to survive winter, in a recent programme carried out by a consortium of humanitarian aid organisations, according to a statement released this week.
The organisations are INTERSOS, International Catholic Migration Commission, Save the Children Jordan and the Norwegian Refugee Council, and the project is funded by the European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department (ECHO).
The vulnerable families comprise Syrian refugees as well as families from host communities, the ECHO statement said.
Outreach visits and lists provided by the Ministry of Social Development, community based organisations and municipalities enabled the organisers to assess more than 12,000 families.
In total, 6,944 families, 70 per cent of which are Syrian refugee households, were selected through “an independent needs-based approach and assisted with cash allowances proportional to their family size and necessities”.
