AMMAN — Four people were arrested after Zarqa Preventive Security Department received a tip-off about individuals allegedly selling artefacts in Zarqa, the Public Security Department (PSD) said on Monday.
Upon receiving the information, the department formed a specialised team that identified the suspects and set up an operation to recover the pieces.
Security personnel stopped the vehicle and arrested four suspects, one of which is an Arab national, according to a PSD statement.
Security agents found some pieces in the vehicle and sent them to the Department of Antiquities to identify their historical value.
Experts have confirmed that the confiscated objects have historical value and date back to 2,000 years. The suspects confessed their intention to sell the stolen items, the PSD noted, adding that investigation was still ongoing.
