33 COVID deaths, 5,180 virus cases recorded Wednesday

AMMAN — Thirty-three COVID-19 deaths and 5,180 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Wednesday, increasing the caseload to 993,339, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 11,850 according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as the positive rate, stood at nearly 9.85 per cent.

A total of 52,589 virus tests were also conducted on Wednesday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 12,564,015, according to the statement.

The statement added that 4,283 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Wednesday, making the total number of recoveries to stand at 916,406 after finishing the 14-day quarantine period.

The statement added that there are currently 65,083 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 181 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Wednesday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 1,175, the statement said, adding that 159 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 27 per cent, ICU beds reached 48 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 32 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 30 per cent, 43 per cent ICUs and 27 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of 11 per cent, 8 per cent for ICUs and 8 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 1,872 infections in Amman, 1,063 in Irbid, 384 in Balqa, 679 in Zarqa, 153 in Madaba, 67 in Aqaba, 246 in Mafraq, 164 in Jerash, 129 in Ajloun, 133 in Karak, 45 in Tafileh, 41 in Maan, 202 in Ramtha and two in Petra District.

The statement added that the total number of people who have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine has reached 4,205,348, while 3,800,072 have gotten their second shot.

The number of people who have registered on the vaccination platform has reached 4,546,319.
