AMMAN — Test results of three contacts of a truck driver infected with COVID-19 in Irbid came back positive, Wael Hayajneh, member of the National Anti-Pandemic Committee and the official overseeing the coronavirus developments in the north, said on Wednesday.
The tests were conducted at the King Abdullah University Hospital on nine persons who were in close contact with the driver, who tested positive after coming to Jordan from a neighbouring country last week, Hayajneh told the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The test results of the six remaining close contacts of the truck driver came back negative, the official said.
Hayajneh said that epidemiological inspection teams collected more than 40 samples from individuals who came into contact with the driver and will continue tracing other contacts.
Irbid’s crisis cell executive committee, headed by Governor Radwan Utoum, restricted trucks’ entry into the governorate from outside Jordan over the past few days to conduct tests on truck drivers, Hayajneh noted.
Over the past 24 hours, more than 25 epidemiological teams have collected 350 random samples in the northern governorate, the official said.
