28 COVID deaths, 7,064 virus cases recorded Saturday

AMMAN — Twenty-eight COVID-19 deaths and 7,064 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Saturday, increasing the caseload to 1,560,822, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 13,657, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as the positive rate, stood at 18.57 per cent, while the fatality rate stood at 0.3 per cent.

A total of 38,038 virus tests were also conducted on Saturday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 15,919,184, according to the statement.

The statement added that 21,460 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Saturday, making the total number of recoveries to stand at 1,367,860 after finishing the 14-day quarantine period.

The statement added that there are currently 179,305 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 178 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Saturday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 1,105, the statement said, adding that 146 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 21 per cent, ICU beds reached 42 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 17 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 26 per cent, 45 per cent ICUs and 20 per cent for ventilators.

 

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of 15 per cent, 19 per cent for ICUs and 14 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the total number of people who received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine has reached 4,658,026, while 4,331,925 have received their second jab.

The total number of people registered on the ministry’s vaccination platform has reached 4,917,992. 

The cases comprised 4,225 infections in Amman, 752 in Irbid, 603 in Zarqa, 393 in Balqa, 198 in Karak, 193 in Mafraq, 176 in Madaba, 124 in Jerash, 122 in Aqaba, 110 in Ramtha District, 82 in Tafileh, 55 in Maan, 21 in Petra District and 10 cases in Ajloun.
