AMMAN — Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti on Wednesday attended the closing ceremony of the 2022 Eager Lion drill that saw the participation of the armed forces of 27 countries in addition to Jordan.

Huneiti listened to a briefing by Assistant Chairman for Operations and Training Brig. Gen. Abdullah Shdeifat about the general purpose of the drill, which seeks to create a joint military environment among participating countries and build a common combat ground that allows participating forces to realise joint goals, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Shdeifat said that the event aimed to train commanders and chiefs of staff on planning and implementing joint operations and train participating parties to work in an operational environment with complex threats of traditional and nontraditional risks.

Commander of the Combined Task Force Brig. Gen. Naji Manaseer said that the drill is aimed to achieve strategic deterrence for all parties that try to tamper with the security and stability of the homeland and to utilise the goals of the exercise in developing capabilities to combat terrorism, maintain land and sea borders, develop cyber security and combat drones.

Meanwhile, the chemical defence unit carried out a drill that simulated operations combating smuggling of radioactive materials through the Jordanian borders with the participation of the Royal Medical Services. Explosive ordnance disposal units and forces from the US, Italian and Austrian forces joined the drill.
