‘Authorities ready to fight threat of locust from the south’

AMMAN — The Agriculture Ministry’s Central Emergency Centre on Monday announced the readiness of 55 locust extermination and 42 scanning and detection squads, of which 27 extermination and 22 detection units are stationed in the southern regions of the Kingdom.
Twenty-seven extermination and 22 scanning and detection teams geared with advanced equipment and pesticides, the statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, said.
The Agriculture Ministry was keeping in touch with its Saudi Arabian counterpart and the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, reporting later in the evening that small number reached Aqaba, while the main body of the locust wars 200km a way.
