12 injured in Amman, Mafraq road accidents

AMMAN — Six people were injured on Thursday when their minivan overturned in east Amman, according to a Civil Defence Department (CDD) statement.

East Amman CDD cadres administered first aid to the injured and took them to Al Hamaideh Hospital where they were listed in fair condition. Another six people were injured in a two-vehicle collision in Mafraq.

House panel to investigate minister’s complaint against MP

AMMAN – The Lower House Permanent Office on Thursday referred Deputy Mustafa Shneikat to the Order and Conduct Committee over “a verbal attack” against Public Works Minister Sami Halaseh, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

At a special meeting held to investigate a complaint by Halaseh, the permanent office decided that the House committee should look into the issue, in accordance with the Chamber’s Rules of Procedure.

The minister had complained that Shneikat verbally attacked him in front of other employees at a meeting hall in the ministry without a previous appointment.

‘Parent assaults two teachers in Aqaba’

AMMAN — The parent of a student has reportedly assaulted two teachers in Aqaba, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Thursday.

Aqaba Education Director Khaled Thneibat said an official complaint was filed with the police against the parent.

The official said Education Minister Mohammad Thneibat called the teachers and checked on their health.

 

 

 

Aid convoy arrives in Gaza

AMMAN — A humanitarian and medical supply convoy arrived on Thursday in Gaza, offered by the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Hospital Commander Col. Ibrahim Masafeh said the convoy comprises four trucks laden with medical supplies, food and clothes, which will all be distributed through the hospital to people in need.

 

 

Suspected home burglar arrested

AMMAN — Criminal Investigation Department personnel were able to locate and arrest the main suspect in a series of home burglaries in Amman after detecting a pattern in his crimes, a Public Security Department statement said.

The suspect confessed to committing 13 house thefts after entering them using copies of the keys.

 

 

Ministers voice keenness on working with private sector

AMMAN —  The Jordan Chamber of Industry on Thursday held a meeting that brought together Finance Minister Omar Malhas, Trade Minister Maha Ali, Transport Minister Ayman Hatahet and Labour Minister Nidal Katamine with representatives of the industry sector.

The ministers voiced the government’s keenness on building a partnership with the private sector, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

They also discussed a number of issues and challenges facing the local industry, commerce and labour sectors.

 

 

CDD receives equipment from German gov’t

AMMAN — The Civil Defence Department (CDD) on Thursday received the second shipment of equipment presented by the German government within a project to enhance the capabilities of the department to deal with dangerous materials, a CDD statement said.

CDD Assistant Director General for Training and Operations Maj. Gen. Khaled Dabbas said the project is a result of the good bilateral relations and will be a “big help” to the Kingdom.

101 Syrian refugees enter Jordan

AMMAN — The army said on Thursday that Border Guards received 101 Syrian refugees during the previous 24 hours.

The troops transferred the refugees to shelters and camps, and Royal Medical Services personnel treated the injured, according to an army statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

 

 

Meeting covers measures to celebrate Arab Revolt centennial

AMMAN — Interior Minister Salameh Hammad on Thursday chaired a meeting to discuss measures and preparations taken by the concerned authorities to celebrate the Great Arab Revolt's centennial, marked on June 10, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Senior officials and officers attended the meeting, during which Hammad said a comprehensive media plan is in place to cover all areas in the Kingdom during the celebration.

Royal Court Secretary General Yousef Issawi said the main celebration will be held in the "flag square" at the Royal Court on June 2.

Gendarmerie director receives Italian official

AMMAN — Gendarmerie Department Director Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh on Thursday discussed cooperation and expertise exchange with Vincenzo Giuliani, the deputy commanding general of the Italian Carabinieri, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Hawatmeh said gendarmerie forces are always looking forward to advancing their operational and technical skills in accordance with international standards. Giuliani, on an official visit to the department, was briefed on the history of the Gendarmerie Department, its role and training plans. He also toured the command centre and commended the advanced level of the gendarmerie forces, calling for more cooperation.
