Solid ties that could serve as a model

His Majesty King Abdullah’s meeting with visiting Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane could only strengthen the already solid relations between Jordan and Morocco.

The two kingdoms share many common perspectives and interests. Both stand out as among the most stable, secure and democratic Arab countries.

During the talks, the King called for reinforcing the Joint Jordanian-Moroccan Higher Committee by reactivating its functions and breathing new life in it.

The committee is a unique mechanism for bringing the two countries closer together. It could also serve as the tool for deepening the cooperation and coordination of efforts in Arab and international arenas.

The Arab world is facing daunting challenges, including the search for an equitable settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and of the Syrian crisis.

The two kingdoms can pool their resources and statesmanship to bring these, and other Arab problems, to peaceful resolutions.

The Moroccan prime minister also held talks with Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, Senate President Abdur Ra’uf S. Rawabdeh and the speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Atef Tarawneh, on how to boost relations between the two countries at all levels of government.

Morocco has a developed political party system; its Justice and Development Party serves as a model of Arab party system of government.

The two countries, therefore, have a lot to learn from each other on the way to democratic progress.

The Moroccan official’s visit and the exemplary ties between the two countries stand to benefit not only the two kingdoms, but the Arab world at large.
