Misguided notions

The Islamic militant movement Daesh — members of Al Qaeda-affiliated Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant — is saying that it intends to widen its battlefield in the area to include Jordan as well.
Established to create a so-called Islamic state in Syria and Iraq that is supposed to follow a strict application of Sharia, Daesh has been fighting on two fronts in the region, in Syria and in Iraq.
According to the Syrian opposition, this extremist faction has been drawn into the battlefield in Syria by Damascus, to battle the opposition forces and take off the heat of the Syrian army.
In Iraq, the grouping has been locked in an armed conflict with the Iraqi armed forces.
The group can of course try to threaten Jordan, but if it does, it is going to find the Jordan Armed Forces, joined by the people, more than ready to deal it a devastating blow.
Jordan has long and extensive experience in fighting terrorism. Even this misguided troop can appreciate that.
At this point in time there is no reason to take the threats against the security of the country seriously. But the security apparatuses need to remain vigilant and prepared.
Besides, terrorism is now a global scourge and all nations must unite to combat it and prevent it from winning a foothold in any part of the world.
Sign that sane nations decided that enough was enough came from Paris, where African leaders attending a security summit declare war on Boko Haram.
It takes political will on the part of all leaders to unite and take severe measures against terrorist groups, under whatever name or ideology they wish to present themselves.
