Inspiring role model

Her Majesty Queen Rania’s belief that “girls with dreams become women with vision”, as written recently in a blog post as part of the UN’s Global Moms Relay, should serve as inspiration to women everywhere.
And what better role model than the Queen herself, a selfless woman who spares no effort to better the lives of all her “children”, the citizens of the country.
The Queen’s choice of stories of inspiring women for the blog prove one thing: that “what unites them is their strength, resilience and resourcefulness”.
That “they are all role models. They are blazing trails”.
Her Majesty’s words should indeed serve as an inspiration to all women who should know that hard work and determination could make their dreams come true.
At the same time, self reliant, independent women can be strong enough to secure all their rights, be they civil, political, economic or social.
Women should not wait solely for governments or the men in their lives to grant them their full rights.
Some inroads have been made towards that goal, but there is still a long way to go.
The “Millennium Development Goals” envision the empowerment of women; so does the Post-2015 Development Agenda, but this objective remains elusive even in advanced nations.
As the Queen rightly says, the struggle for freedom from tyranny, violence and abuse of women is long and tortuous, but it begins with a dream, which can become a vision and lead to emancipation.
For that to happen, women must persevere.
Above all, they need to educate themselves, unite in pursuit of goals and continue to prove, as they have done through centuries, anonymously and strenuously, maybe now a bit louder, that they are one half of humanity, the more resilient, stronger and caring half, without whose contribution the world would be a darker place.
