Warriors beat the Jazz for 19th straight win

SALT LAKE CITY — Stephen Curry scored 26 points as the Golden State Warriors held on for their NBA-record 19th consecutive win to start the season, 106-103 over the Utah Jazz on Monday.

With the game tied at 101 with 51 seconds left, Curry hit a 3-pointer from the left wing to give the Warriors the lead. Rodney Hood scored 14 seconds later to bring the Jazz within one.

After Curry missed a 3, the Jazz had a chance to take the lead, but Hood missed a 3 from the wing with 5 seconds left. Curry hit two free throws and Gordon Hayward’s half-court heave at the buzzer fell way short.

Klay Thompson added 20 points for the Warriors, including four 3-pointers. Hayward led the Jazz with 24 points.

Atlanta’s Paul Millsap scored 26 points and Jeff Teague made all the big shots down the stretch, sending the Hawks to a 106-100 victory that ended Oklahoma City’s four-game winning streak.

Russell Westbrook had 34 points, including a drive with 2:49 remaining that gave the Thunder their first lead since scoring the opening basket. Westbrook knocked down a jumper to push Oklahoma City to a four-point lead.

Teague took control from there. He finished with 25 points, while Al Horford added 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Kevin Durant, selected Western Conference player of the week, after coming back from a left hamstring injury, had 25 points.

In Los Angeles, Blake Griffin scored 23 points and DeAndre Jordan had a season-high 24 rebounds along with 18 points as the Clippers beat the Portland Trail Blazers 102-87 for their third straight victory.

Griffin, who began the day with an NBA-best .548 field goal percentage, made eight of 19 shots and grabbed eight boards. Chris Paul had 10 points and six assists in 24 minutes, leaving in the third quarter because of a strained rib muscle.

Griffin’s 450 points are the most by a Clippers player through the first 18 games of a season since the franchise relocated from San Diego to Los Angeles in 1984-85.

The Chicago Bulls edged the San Antonio Spurs 92-89 after Pau Gasol had 18 points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots, while Boston’s Avery Bradley scored 25 points and forced a big turnover when he knocked away a pass by Dwyane Wade with a minute remaining in the Celtics’ 105-95 win over the Miami Heat.

In other games, Greg Monroe scored 18 points as the Milwaukee Bucks forced 24 turnovers that led to 35 points in handing Denver its seventh consecutive loss 92-74, the Detroit Pistons downed the Houston Rockets 116-105 and the Sacramento Kings were 112-98 winners over the Dallas Mavericks.
