AMMAN — Many Zarqa residents took to social media over the weekend to express happiness in the snowfall their governorate received.

Zarqa, 22km east of Amman, usually does not receive snow, and many of its residents end up driving to nearby Amman to play in the snow there.

Aseel moh’d (‏@AseelAlsallal) wrote on her Twitter account: “It needed half an hour of sun rays [for snow in Zarqa] to melt.”

Bayan Mdah ‏(@BayanMadah), another tweep, was astonished that snow finally visited Zarqa. “We have snow; finally Jana has made it,” he tweeted, using the popular name given to the snowstorm.

Mohammad Tahhan (‏@tahanco) wrote: “Zarqa was dressed in white, but its dress was short,” commenting on the short period the snow covered the governorate.

Majd A. Majali ‏(@majd_majali) jokingly warned Amman residents against going to Zarqa to play in the snow.

“The Civil Defence Department calls on citizens in Jubeiha, Sweileh and Khalda not to go to Zarqa to play in the snow,” she tweeted.

The three high-altitude Amman neighbourhoods usual receive the largest amount of snow whenever a snowstorm hits the Kingdom.

Ahmad Abu Haija wrote on his Facebook timeline: “Jana will arrive in Zarqa after midnight like Cinderella, and you will wake up in the morning as if nothing has happened. Then, Zarqa residents will start searching for it in other governorates.”
