AMMAN — One hundred and thirty one young people, mainly women, graduated this week from the “Demand-Driven Vocational Training, Employment, and Entrepreneurship Skills Development Programme” project after completing technical training in the food processing sector at the Jordan Hospitality & Tourism Education Company (JHTEC), according to a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) statement.

The project which was launched by the UNDP in Jordan is implemented by JHTEC in partnership with Jordan Education for Employment, and funded by the Japanese government in collaboration with the World Food Programme and the National Micro-finance Bank, according to the statement.

The project aims to support vulnerable Jordanian young men and women from Zarqa Governorate, 22km northeast of Amman, through building their vocational and interpersonal skills in sectors where demand is very high for skilled labour such as retail, food processing and electrics and electronics in addition to improving employability and entrepreneurship skills of the beneficiaries, the statement read.

The graduates attended several courses, which included English language, computer skills and workplace success training which will contribute to their qualification to enter the labour market in the food production field, followed by intensive training in fast-food and oriental food in addition to bakery and sweets, the statement added.

After completing their training, beneficiaries will choose to either be placed in jobs or to establish their own micro-businesses and receive mentorship, technical training and financial support during this period which will last for three months, concluded the statement.
