AMMAN — The Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology at Yarmouk University on Sunday said its students have found architectural remnants dating back to the Roman, Byzantine and Umayyad eras in their excavations at Um Qais.
The project, which concluded on Sunday, was jointly organised with the Department of Antiquities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The dig, which was part of the faculty’s field training, focused on giving students the chance to apply the excavation techniques they learnt, as well as document their findings.
Students found pottery, glass works and coins originating from the Roman, Byzantine and Umayyad periods that indicate the age of the architectural remains, according to Petra.
