AMMAN — The Water Authority of Jordan’s (WAJ) Planning and Management Department (PMD) has implemented vital projects to enhance water supply.
Work is underway to complete and implement a number of projects funded by the French Development Agency (AFD), which would improve the water situation in Zarqa through the operation of the Abu Alanda-Khaw project for transferring the Al Disi water to Zarqa and the northern governorates, according to a Water Ministry statement.
The Water Authority's PMD, with funding from the AFD, has operated hydro power plants (HPPs) to generate electricity with a capacity of 1.2 megawatts in the Marka region and 0.8 megawatts in the Khaw region.
HPPs convert water pressure resulting from differences in elevation into green electricity.
The total energy output is expected to range from 1.8 to 2 megawatts per hour, according to the statement.
