AMMAN — The winners of the 56th Annual International Diplomatic Bazaar were announced on Monday, following a prize draw at the Queen Zein Al Sharaf Development Institute, part of the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD).

The bazaar, launched by HRH Princess Basma on  October 11, raised money for Mabarrat Umm Al Hussein, which has provided a home for disadvantaged and orphaned boys since 1958, according to a statement from the organisers.

This year, for the first time in its history, the bazaar was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the event, Mabarrat Umm Al Hussein  expressed their thanks to the Diplomatic Corps in Amman and all the participants and donors, stressing that their contribution will enable it to continue supporting vulnerable boys.

Mabarrat Umm Al Hussein offers shelter, food, clothing, health support, educational and non-curricular activities and also provides educational and recreational services to local community members in Marka, East Amman.

Mabarrat Umm Al Hussein aims to equip its students with the skills and the self-confidence required to live happy, independent lives once they have graduated, the statement said.

According to a Mabarrat Umm Al Hussein statement, “despite the bazaar not being held in person, it nevertheless stayed true to the humanitarian spirit it has embodied since its launch in 1964, and still provided an opportunity for participants to celebrate world cultures, cultural exchange and the human values that bind us all”.

The prize draw was conducted in the presence of a representative of the Ministry of Social Development. In total, there were 129 gifts donated by the embassies, diplomatic bodies, and a range of private supporters. Participants can find out if they won at www.diplomaticbazaarjor.com, where they can also find instructions for how to collect the prizes.
