Winners of 25th International Hashemite Koran Memorisation Contest honoured

AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, HRH Prince Feisal on Wednesday attended the closing ceremony of the 25th International Hashemite Koran Memorisation Contest at the Islamic Cultural Centre affiliated with King Abdullah Mosque, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
In his remarks, Awqaf Minister Wael Arabiyat noted that the contest, which was organised by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, is held every year in order to entrench the noble meanings and attributes in the holy Koran.
Arabiyat noted that 29 countries from around the world participated in the contest over the past 25 years, stressing the need for this generation to apply the values of the Koran in their lives.
The ceremony included Koran recitation by a group of participants.
At the end of the ceremony, Prince Feisal distributed certificates and prizes to the winning participants and also to the members of the judging panel and individuals for their contributions to the success of the contest.
Khadir Al Masri from Jordan won the first prize followed by Tawfeeq Abdali from Algeria and Omar Qati from Sudan winning the second and third places respectively.
The fourth place went to Tamim Ahmad from the UAE followed by Sultan Bader from Kuwait.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Islamic Justice Abdul Karim Khasawneh and the Kingdom’s Mufti Mohammad Khalaileh, along with other Islamic clerics, officers and officials.
