Wedding venues suffer JD100m losses from pandemic — stakeholder

AMMAN — The Kingdom’s wedding venues and halls have lost a minimum of JD100 million, according to a stakeholder.

“Although wedding venues and halls have been operating for a while now, no profit is being made because sector operators are still paying off the accumulated debts,” Mamun Al Manaseer, head of the Wedding Venues and Planning Businesses Association, told The Jordan Times on Sunday.

“There is still instability in our work and there are no regulations or guidelines that are supporting us during this unprecedented period,” he continued.

The pandemic has created a set of challenges and put the wedding venue sector in dire straits, he added.

“The only way to make the situation a bit better is through cooperation, flexibility and partnership,” said Manaseer.

Now each wedding can have up to 200 guests, according to Manaseer, who added that sector operators are complying with the safety guidelines.

“It will take a lot of time to make up for the sector’s financial losses,” he said.

He pointed out that the number of weddings in venues and halls has been “considerably reduced”, especially considering the growing micro-wedding and farm wedding trends.
