AMMAN — The Independent Election Commission (IEC) said on Monday that some 34,000 volunteers, both males and females, had registered by Sunday to participate in the elections.
The volunteers will take part in a “door-to-door” awareness campaign, the commission will launch this week, in order to educate the public on the municipal and decentralisation laws that will govern the twin elections, slated for August 15.
Participants in the campaign will also ensure that voters are familiar with the polling mechanism in their constituencies, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The volunteers had applied to help in the election process through filling applications available online on the IEC website.
IEC chief Khalid Kalaldeh has met with a group of the volunteers as they were receiving training recently, thanking them for joining the effort and expressing pride in their volunteerism spirit.
