AMMAN — A vessel loaded with 50,000 tonnes of wheat, coming from Romania, will dock at the Aqaba port on Wednesday, the Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and Management announced on Tuesday.
General Manager of the Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and Management Khaled Al Maaytah, during a press conference, said that the Russia-Ukraine crisis did not impact supply chains at the Aqaba port, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The company's revenues in 2021 reached some JD67 million, he said, highlighting signs of recovery.
Emphasising handling rates’ improvement, he said that Aqaba ports in 2021 handled 4.3 million tonnes of fuel and gas, 4.3 million tonnes of wood and some 110,000 vehicles.
Maaytah added that the volume of grains that was handled totalled 2.9 million tonnes, noting that livestock entry totalled 1.5 million head in 2021 to meet the Kingdom's demands.
On transit tourism, Maaytah said that a total of 254,000 tourists were welcomed.
He highlighted the plans in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan to maintain transport and supply chains movement, and meet import demand as staffs work around the clock to speed up handling.
