US-Jordanian business forum discusses future partnership

AMMAN — Minister of State for Investment Affairs Muhannad Shehadeh on Tuesday stressed the importance of the Jordanian-US partnership, especially that the Kingdom looks at Washington as its main commercial partner.

Shehadeh, who participated in the US-Jordanian business forum that was organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan (AmCham) in cooperation with the commercial department at the US embassy in Amman, said that Jordan seeks to improve its business and investment environment to guarantee creating more jobs to help
address poverty and unemployment.

During the forum, titled "Jordan-Utah business forum: a partnership for the future", which was held with support of USAID, the minister noted that the government regards the various challenges facing the Kingdom as opportunities for development, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

In this regard, he said that the government improved the investment environment in the Kingdom, provided an attractive climate for investments and addressed challenges facing investors.

Governor of Utah Gary Herbert, USAID deputy mission Director Jim Barnhart, AmCham Chairman Mohammed Bataineh and representatives of the US embassy in Amman and the Jordan Investment Commission, in addition to a delegation of 35 representatives of public and private sectors in Utah, participated in the event.

Barnhart said that there are various opportunities of commercial cooperation available for US companies, adding that the partnership between AmCham, USIAD and the embassy contributed to increasing the number of US companies that benefit from these opportunities. 

Bataineh cited the contributions of the US embassy in supporting the chamber's work and other national institutions in strengthening commercial and investment ties between the two countries.

AmCham works closely with the private sector, the US embassy and the government to boost bilateral ties between Amman and Washington through diversifying and promoting national products and enhancing investments, Petra reported, quoting an AmCham statement.
