AMMAN — UNRWA on Monday commended Jordan's "pioneering and exceptional" role in addressing the humanitarian needs of Palestinian citizens in the Gaza Strip.
In remarks to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, UNRWA Media Advisor Adnan Abu Hasna highlighted that Jordan was among the first nations to dispatch substantial humanitarian aid to various regions of the Gaza Strip, including the establishment of field hospitals, which played a significant role in providing medical services to patients and the injured.
He added that Jordan was the first to carry out airdrops of aid across the besieged strip and the northern regions, which are severely affected by widespread famine.
He emphasised that UNRWA views Jordan as a key partner in serving Palestinian refugees across their areas of residence, adding that Jordan stands as one of the important supporters of UNRWA and the Palestinian refugee cause.
The Gaza Culture and Development Group (GCDG) expressed gratitude and appreciation for the substantial efforts made by the Kingdom, under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah and HRH Crown Prince Hussein, in providing significant humanitarian support to Gaza amidst the ongoing difficult circumstances caused by the ongoing Israeli war.
The group's director pointed out that the aid included food, health, and medical parcels, which helped alleviate the suffering of citizens in the besieged strips.
The GCDG has distributed over 10,000 food parcels provided by Jordan to those displaced from their homes and currently in shelters. These food parcels included essential items needed by families during these challenging times.
He noted that this generous initiative reflects the "deep-rooted brotherly and supportive ties" between the Jordanian and Palestinian peoples and underscores the "noble positions" of the Kingdom in supporting just humanitarian causes.
