Unemployment rose slightly in Q4 2019 — DoS

AMMAN — The unemployment rate in the fourth quarter of 2019 went up by 0.3 per cent to 19 per cent, compared with the same quarter of 2018, the Department of Statistics (DoS) announced on Sunday.
In the October-December period of 2019, unemployment stood at 17.7 per cent and 24.1 per cent among men and women respectively, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported, citing a DoS statement.
Unemployment among holders of university degrees went up to 22.4 per cent, the department noted. The DoS also indicated that 50.7 per cent of unemployed individuals hold a Tawjihi (general secondary education certificate examination) certificate or higher, while 49.3 per cent had qualifications lower than Tawjihi.
