AMMAN — United Nations Resident Coordinator in Jordan Sheri Ritsema-Anderson on Thursday visited the Catholic Centre for Studies and Media.
Anderson stressed that international law protects civilians, who have a fundamental right to life, adding that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned against violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza during the recent UN Security Council meeting on the Palestinian cause.
Anderson also underlined the crucial role of religious leaders in strengthening humanitarian values for peace and reconciliation in the difficult circumstances the world is facing.
Father Rifat Bader, director of the centre, highlighted the centre's humanitarian message, noting that the Catholic Centre, which is affiliated to the Latin Patriarchate, is expanding its work to serve the Jordanian Church and society as a whole.
