UK imposes electronics ban on Jordan passengers

AMMAN — UK authorities on Wednesday issued a new regulation banning passengers on flights from Queen Alia International Airport from carrying laptops, tablets and large phones in the aircraft cabin, according to a statement from the Royal Jordanian (RJ) Airlines. 

The decision followed a similar ban issued earlier in the week by the US government, which banned electronic devices from direct inbound flights from eight countries. The UK, for its part, applied its ban to six Middle Eastern and North African countries.

In addition to Jordan, the UK’s ban includes flights coming from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Tunisia and Lebanon. However, it excludes flights departing from the UK to the Kingdom and the said countries.

RJ will implement the new arrangements as of March 26, 2017, said the statement, noting that these measures will benefit passengers as it will spare them the potential hassle of legal procedures in London Heathrow. 

RJ called upon its passengers travelling to London to abide by these instructions to facilitate their travel and requested from them to inform the airport’s check-in staff of any prohibited devices. Said devices are required to be placed in the checked baggage as per UK authorities’ instructions.
