AMMAN — Security apparatuses have caught two dummy corporations claiming to facilitate personal loans, the Public Security Department’s (PSD) media centre said Monday.

The Central Amman Criminal Investigation Department received complaints about a company in the capital’s Jabal Hussein neighbourhood that practises illegal commercial activities, according to a PSD statement sent to The Jordan Times.

The company charged victims JD100-JD200 in return for offering consultations to facilitate the loan process, the statement said, adding that the dummy firm marketed its services through satellite channels and advertisements in newspapers.

After confirming the information and identifying the people involved in running the company, investigators searched the premises and detained four suspects, one of whom is a suspect in other fraud cases, the PSD said.

The suspects confessed to defrauding many people, and security personnel found paperwork related to 350 fake loan transactions, according to the PSD statement, which added that 37 citizens have filed complaints against the company, and the suspects are still being questioned.

The PSD said that after further investigations to identify similar dummy corporations, its personnel inspected another firm in the Sports City neighbourhood, which led to apprehending two suspects who turned out to have criminal records involving fraud.

The two suspects confessed to defrauding a large number of people out of JD50 to JD300 as fees for facilitating loans.

Investigators found records of a number of these fake transactions at the firm’s offices, the PSD said.

Around 30 people filed complaints against the second company, and an investigation is still in progress, according to the PSD, which warned people against falling victim to such scams.
