AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Monday charged two men with manslaughter in connection with the stabbing death of a young man in an Amman neighbourhood late Sunday night, official sources said.

The 21-year-old victim reportedly received one fatal stab wound to the heart and a second to his lung following a brawl with the two suspects in Swefieh at around mid-night on Sunday, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

Three other men were also charged with assault in connection with the incident, Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

The two suspects reportedly confessed to engaging in a fight with the victim “who wanted to report one of them to the police because he was wanted on several offences”, a judicial source close to the investigations said.

“The suspects and the victim met in a garage of a commercial building and engaged in a heated argument that turned into a fist fight,” according to the source.

The victim was reportedly stabbed twice and died at the scene, the judicial source added.

Police retrieved a switchblade that they believed was used in the fatal attack and sent it to the criminal lab for further analysis, the judicial source added.

Police rounded up five men and Criminal Court Prosecutor Mohammad Bdeirat levelled criminal charges against them, the judicial source said.

All five were ordered detained for 15 days at a correctional and rehabilitation pending further questioning, the judicial source added.
