AMMAN — The Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) has convened a board meeting to discuss the challenges facing the sector amid the COVID-19 pandemic, mainly compensation for investors from government funds and the operation of various modes of transport.
LTRC Director General Salah Lozi said that the meeting was held in accordance with Royal directives aiming at strengthening the partnership between the public and private sectors, with the aim of engaging "all concerned bodies" in the decision-making process to address the sector’s challenges, an LTRC statement said.
The meeting reviewed developments and challenges facing the Kingdom’s land transport sector, with a focus on the losses sustained by operators due to work stoppage in response to defence orders during the country's two-and-a-half month lockdown, Lozi said in the statement.
The LTRC regularly discusses the sector’s challenges with the Prime Ministry, Lozi noted, adding that the commission has submitted its demands to the Prime Ministry.
Meanwhile, LTRC Media and Communication Director and Spokesperson Abla Wishah told The Jordan Times on Monday that the commission follows the safety measures outlined by the National Pandemic Committee.
“Passenger capacity is at only 50 per cent, thus affecting the sector’s operational capability and the obligations of operators and investors,” Wishah said.
