Trade deficit increased by 26.8% in first 11 months 2022— DoS

AMMAN — Jordan's trade deficit in the January-November period of 2022 increased by 26.8 per cent compared with the same period in 2021, rising from JD7.774 billion to JD9.854 billion, the Department of Statistics (DoS) announced on Thursday.

The value of the Kingdom’s total exports reached JD8.107 billion in the first 11 months of 2022, increasing by 35.2 per cent from the JD5.997 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2021, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

In the same period of 2022, national exports also went up by 37 per cent, reaching JD7.462 billion, compared with the same period of 2021 during which national exports measured JD5.446 billion, DoS figures showed. 

The value of re-exports stood at JD644.8 million in the first 11 months of 2022, marking an increase of 17.1 per cent compared with the JD550 million recorded during the same period of 2021, the DoS added.

Jordan’s imports also increased by 30.4 per cent, reaching JD17.962 billion compared with the JD13.771 billion recorded in the January-November period of 2021.

Monthly figures showed that exports in November 2022 totalled JD695.2 million, marking an increase of 4.3 per cent compared with the figure reported during the same month of 2021.

National exports rose by 6.9 per cent in November 2022, reaching JD640.2 million. The value of re-exports in the same month stood at JD55 million, down 18.8 per cent compared with the same month of 2021.

Imports also went down by 0.7 per cent in November 2022 when compared with the previous year, reaching JD1.420 billion.

According to the DoS report, the trade balance deficit in November 2022 reached JD725.1 million, a 5.1 per cent decrease compared with November 2021.
