Trade deficit up by 30.2% during first 5 months of 2021

AMMAN — Jordan's trade balance deficit with countries of the European Union (EU) went up by 30.2 per cent during the first five months of 2021, to reach nearly JD1.052 billion, compared with JD807.6 million during the same period of 2020, according to the Department of Statistics' (DoS) figures.

The volume of national exports to EU countries during the January-May period of 2021 totalled JD78.2 million, marking a 29.7 per cent increase, in comparison with JD60.3 million during the same period of 2020.

The department's report revealed that imports from the EU countries also increased by 30.3 per cent, reaching JD1.131 billion, compared with JD867.9 million during the same period of comparison.

Jordan’s trade balance deficit by the end of May 2021 increased by 30.4 per cent, reaching JD3.2 billion, compared with JD2.454 billion during the same period last year, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Thursday.
