AMMAN — Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Makram Al Qaisi on Monday met with Bishop of Tarbes and Lourdes Marc Micas, and an accompanying delegation to discuss the twinning of the Lady of Lourdes shrine located in the Naour region, established in 2015, with the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in France.
The meeting focused on the ministry's continuous efforts to rehabilitate, develop, and promote Christian pilgrimage sites and other religious destinations in Jordan, to attract tourists from all over the world, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Qaisi emphasised the importance of providing basic services for visitors to these sites, including the historic religious sites such as the Baptism site, Mount Nebo, Mar Elias, Our Lady of the Mountain, Madaba's Mukawir, and the shrine of Saint George the Martyr. He also stressed the need to extend the stay of Christian pilgrims in several Jordanian governorates, such as Madaba and others.
Bishop Micas affirmed the significance of the twinning project. He expressed his pride in his first visit to Jordan, which is considered "a holy land".
