AMMAN — Three people died and three others were injured in traffic accidents over the past three days, according to the Central Traffic Department (CTD).

On Thursday, a 48-year-old man died in a two-vehicle collision at noon on Kufor Assad road in Irbid, 80km north of Amman, Lt. Col. Yaser Habahbeh of the CTD told The Jordan Times.

Two others were injured in the accident, which occurred due to a sudden change of lanes.

The injured were hospitalised and listed in fair condition.

On Wednesday, a 25-year-old man died when he was hit by a car in Amman’s Yasmin area at around 5pm.

The accident occurred because the motorist was not careful, Habahbeh explained.

The body was taken to Al Bashir Hospital, according to the Civil Defence Department.

Also on Wednesday, a nine-year-old girl was injured when she was hit by a public transportation bus in Petra’s Taibeh area, Habahbeh said.

On Tuesday, a 21-year-old university student died in Karak’s Mutah District, 140km south of Amman, in a two-vehicle collision, the official added.

The collision occurred at 7:30am and involved a truck and a private bus, on which the student was a passenger.

The accident took place because the truck driver did not give right of way, added Habahbeh.

Some 542 people died in around 8,000 accidents in the first nine months of 2016, the CTD said, while there were 1,270 critical injuries and 12,000 minor injuries in the same period.

During 2015, there were 608 deaths in 9,712 accidents, as well as 2,021 critical injuries and 12,000 minor injuries, according to the department.
