AMMAN — Cold and cloudy weather conditions accompanied by rainfall are expected to prevail in most regions across the Kingdom, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

Arabia Weather, a weather forecasting company, said that a third-degree weather depression, which began affecting the Kingdom on Saturday, is forecast to last until Tuesday.

In its four-day weather forecast, the JMD said that the cold air mass accompanying the weather depression will deepen on Sunday, causing a significant decrease in temperatures, forecast to range between a high of 12°C and low of 6°C.

It added that cold and cloudy weather conditions will prevail in the Kingdom’s northern and central regions, which will be affected by rainfall that turns heavy for limited periods of time, sometimes accompanied by thunder.

The JMD also forecast that rainfall will gradually extend to southern and eastern regions in the form of light showers with active westerly winds stirring dust in desert areas.

Arabia Weather said that the weather depression will deepen during the late night hours and early morning as a new air front passes through the Kingdom, bringing heavy rainfall and thunder, sometimes accompanied by showers of hail.

This will lead to the formation of floods in parts of the Kingdom’s northern and central regions, it added, predicting that rainfall will extend to the highlands of Karak, Tafileh and the Northern Badia at night.

On Monday, temperatures are expected to range between a high of 11°C during the day and a low of 6°C at night, according to the JMD.

Arabia Weather forecast that the weather on Monday will be partly cloudy to cloudy at times, marked by the formation of fog and low clouds above some highlands.

It predicted that the day would witness heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunder and sometimes showers of hail, leading to the formation of floods and rising levels of water, especially in the Kingdom’s northern and central region.

It’s also possible that the early morning hours would bring sporadic snow showers above  the highlands of Tafileh, especially those that are 1,600 metres above the sea, such as Al Rashidiyah, according to Arabia Weather.

Moderate southwesterly winds that become active in the afternoon are expected to stir dust in desert areas and eastern valleys, it added.

The JMD said that temperatures on Tuesday will witness a slight increase, while remaining 4°C to 5°C degrees below their usual levels.

Relatively cold and partly cloudy weather conditions are expected to prevail with the possibility of scattered rain showers in the western parts of the Kingdom during the day, it added.
