Telecom commission to appeal ruling in arbitration case

AMMAN — The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) on Tuesday said it is currently studying a ruling by a Switzerland-based arbitration committee against it dated July 12, 2015 to present an appeal to the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland.
The TRC said it purchased a mobile system to check and control the frequency spectrum in the Kingdom through a tender won by the US DRS Company in 2005.
After the company “violated the required technical standards and programmes and did not abide by the delivery deadline”, despite many warnings, the TRC annulled the contract and DRS sought international arbitration in 2012 over the issue, TRC said, noting that it respects the ruling although it was against its expectations.
