Tawjihi students urged not to fall for sources claiming to have results

AMMAN — The Ministry of Education on Saturday called on students who sat for the General Secondary Certificate Examination (Tawjihi) to "disregard" any sources that claim they will announce its results before they are officially issued by the ministry.

Ahead of the announcement of Tawjihi results, Jordanians receive text messages on their phones from sources that claim they can offer the exam's results before the official announcement.

The ministry's spokesperson, Walid Jallad, said the results of the summer session, which will be announced after the correction process concludes, will be published on the ministry's website and via official media outlets.

"The ministry has finished correcting over 70 per cent of Tawjihi papers," Jallad told The Jordan Times over the phone, adding that the correction process is still under way.

Students who pass the exam usually express their happiness by celebrations, festive firing and car processions, since their Tawjihi scores decide their future in higher education.

In recent remarks to The Jordan Times, Jallad said this year's summer session has witnessed a remarkable drop in the number of exam violations, with around 2,700 violations, compared with around 6,000 during the winter session.

A total of 126,773 students had registered to sit for the Tawjihi summer session, for which the ministry tasked 13,000 teachers to supervise the exams and 18,566 to correct the papers.

The registered students included 92 inmates at correctional and rehabilitation centres and 367 students with different disabilities.

Tawjihi is the main criterion to determine whether students are qualified to go to university, at which public university they can enrol, and in which specialty they can major.
